This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this department. Performs Diagnostic Testing on patients. Collects blood and urine specimens using aseptic technique, performs EKG’s and enters collection of specimens into Epic EMR. Labels specimen containers / tubes appropriately (includes name, date of birth, physician, unit and patient MRN#) with label in front of patient. Provides and maintains a comfortable, safe environment for patients. Reports any equipment malfunction within 15 minutes of malfunction. Ensures proper identification of patients by verifying patients name, spelling, date of birth, MRN number and physician. Review physician order sheet for patient’s correct name & allergies. Introduces self to patient / family and explains procedures. Consults nursing personnel concerning ambiguous orders prior to performing test. Reports any abnormal results to nurse or faxes to MD office. Assists in pre-admit assessment of patients. Assists patients through various areas of Pre-Admission process as needed. Escorts / transports patients. Assists in escorting patient to radiology waiting, hospital exits, or other diagnostic departments. Escort patients to SDS or for discharge home from SDS. Transports specimens to lab when necessary. Performs additional duties as assigned. Performs additional duties as directed by manager and/or coordinator.
