Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year clinical nursing experience, preferably in pre-admission testing, perioperative, or ambulatory care settings.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) documentation.
  • Clinical assessment skills daily to evaluate patient health status and identify potential risks before procedures.
  • Effective communication skills are essential for educating patients and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are applied to interpret diagnostic data and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Empathy and patient-centered care skills help in providing emotional support and building trust with patients during the pre-admission process.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Advanced certifications such as Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse (CAPA) or Certified Preoperative Nurse (CPN).
  • Experience working in a hospital pre-admission testing or surgical services department.
  • Knowledge of perioperative nursing standards and protocols.
  • Strong familiarity with patient education techniques and health literacy principles.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-admission nursing assessments including reviewing patient medical histories, medications, allergies, and previous surgical experiences.
  • Perform necessary diagnostic tests and screenings such as vital signs, EKGs, and laboratory specimen collection to evaluate patient readiness for procedures.

  • Document all assessments, test results, and patient interactions accurately in the electronic health record system.

  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and infection control protocols.
