About The Position

Athens Orthopedic Ambulatory Surgery Center located in Athens, GA is hiring for a Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) RN. Position may require travel to other affiliated surgery centers. Candidate must be flexible and willing to work in both Pre-Operative and PACU settings as needed. Job Summary: Prepares and clears all patients scheduled for surgery prior to their admission date to prevent surgery cancellations and delays. Exemplifies excellent patient triage assessments by either verbal conversations or an in person visit.Organize and complete chart production, assessments, complete history & physicals, anesthesia preparation/clearance, operative consents and education. Medication knowledge and interactions is also vital.Confirm all pre operative requirements are met and notify any abnormal test results to anesthesia. Knowledge of performing diagnostic test such as EKG's & venipunctures for lab drawings.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in state of Georgia.
  • Two years nursing experience.
  • Current BLS certification

Nice To Haves

  • Current ACLS Certification (Preferred)
  • Current PALS Certification (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Review each patients chart that is scheduled for surgery or a procedure
  • Ability to perform a head-to-toe preoperative assessment on all patients and reassesses, as needed. This includes adolescent, adult, geriatric and the general patient population
  • Ability to perform pain assessment, intervention, management and patient/family education
  • Conduct phone assessments to obtain additional health history information
  • Facilitate completion or perform pre op diagnostic test when ordered
  • Coordinate and communicate closely with anesthesia any abnormal results or healthy history of patients scheduled
  • Identify physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner
  • Make decisions reflecting knowledge of facts, knowledge of diseases/surgical conditions, care required and good judgment.
  • Organize, complete and verify all charts are assembled to include all appropriate documentation, consents, test results and medications
  • Knowledge in all areas of care specific to ASC
  • Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly
  • Organize and manage nursing activities reflecting due consideration for patients’ needs and the needs of the facility and staff
  • Utilize initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; a self starter; compatible and supportive; a team player.
  • Knowledge of medications and IV fluids and their correct administration, based on age of the patient and patient’s clinical condition
  • Participate in continuing education and other learning experiences
  • Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and can identify dysrhythmias
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to Administrator, co-workers and physicians
  • Demonstrate an ability to assist physicians in the ASC
  • Demonstrate an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity. Practices good guest relations
  • Maintain a good working relationship and effective communication both within the ASC and for the benefit of the patient
  • Meet current documentation standards and policies
  • Identify and address psychosocial needs of patients and family
  • Carry out medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures
  • Maintain an environment that provides the patient and family with feelings of safety and security.
  • Adhere to dress code; appearance is neat and clean
  • Maintain regulatory requirements; nursing and facility policies, procedures and standards
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time
  • Complete in-services as assigned
  • Attend annual review and in-services as scheduled
  • Attend and participates in staff meetings annually
  • Participate in Emergency Drills
  • Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner
  • Actively participate in performance improvement and quality improvement (QI) activities
  • Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices
  • Communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the facility
  • Use facility resources appropriately and avoids wasteful practice
  • Perform according to established performance-improvement policies and procedures
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities
