The PAT Nurse provides preoperative assessments and instructions to prepare patients for surgery. This role is responsible for initiating preoperative assessment and care to pre-surgical patients using the nursing process. The nurse is accountable for pre-procedural testing, documenting and communicating patient history, and providing preoperative instructions and education to patients prior to surgery. They will also discuss and arrange post-operative follow-up care, review physician orders to ensure necessary tests and preoperative labs are complete, and evaluate and screen patients for any possible complications. Communication with the surgeon, office nursing staff, triage, scheduling, and OR staff is essential, as is working collaboratively with other team members to ensure safe and accurate patient care delivery. The nurse will assess the patient's condition and address their needs before and during surgery, maintain regular and predictable attendance, and adhere to ADSC policies and procedures.
