The Practice Support Assistant performs various duties including answering phones, greeting patients, scheduling, patient check-in, preparing and retrieving files, and directing telephone calls. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. This role involves registering patients, confirming demographic and insurance information, determining and collecting co-payments, and entering charges/payments into the practice management system. The position also includes scheduling appointments, tests, and referrals, answering telephones, maintaining patient medical records, obtaining patient authorization for information transfer, and performing basic office duties such as sorting mail, copying, filing, and faxing. Additional responsibilities include formatting and proofreading correspondence, maintaining a clean work area, and completing special projects as assigned. The role also emphasizes continuous learning, accurate documentation, and treating patients, families, visitors, and employees with kindness and respect. Demonstrating teamwork, integrity, and knowledge of hospital safety and infection control policies is crucial. The Practice Support Assistant will also maintain provider schedules, print daily schedules, run reports, and prepare daily deposits. Additional duties may involve demographic and insurance entry for all clinical patients, reviewing accounts for accuracy, and communicating with office staff to ensure accurate registration.
