This role involves the administrative services and operations for health care clinics or centers, ensuring compliance with federal, local, and internal standards, policies, and regulations. It typically encompasses operations, fiscal management, program planning, and/or external marketing activities, with management levels potentially including oversight of clinical patient care. The Practice Manager provides direct supervision to professionals or skilled technical employees, acts as an advisor to unit and administration, and is responsible for analyzing and resolving problems, interpreting policies, and exercising judgment to determine appropriate action. The position supervises staff to ensure accountability and stewardship of department resources in line with departmental goals and objectives, and oversees clinic and call center operations, which may span multiple providers, clinics, and/or practices. Key administrative areas under oversight include practice revenue management, billing systems and procedures, facilities and safety procedures, registration, new patient coordination, scheduling, medical records storage and maintenance, and insurance authorizations. The role may also involve supervising patient support staff, such as medical assistants or LVNs, in coordination with the nursing lead.
