About The Position

The Center for Disability Services is one of upstate New York’s largest providers of programs and services for individuals with disabilities, offering hope, innovation, and achievement. Many of its innovative programs and vital services are not available elsewhere. The Practice Manager of Wellness is responsible for overseeing aquatic operations and wellness programming in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations. This role ensures the safety, supervision, and quality of all aquatic activities, including pool operations, lifeguard staff oversight, and compliance with established safety plans. The Practice Manager of Wellness works collaboratively with departmental leadership to support programming, training, and administrative needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification required
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid required
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Ability to communicate clearly, calmly, and decisively, especially in emergency situations
  • Strong safety awareness and adherence to established protocols
  • Ability to supervise staff and work collaboratively with leadership
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced, active environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in water safety instruction and supervision preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily pool operations and aquatic programming in compliance with NYS Department of Health standards
  • Monitor all aquatic activities, pool conditions, and lifeguard coverage (scheduled and on‑call)
  • Ensure the safety of all individuals in the pool area and enforce established safety protocols
  • Maintain life‑saving equipment and ensure accessibility at all times
  • Supervise, orient, and assist in the evaluation of lifeguard staff
  • Maintain Swimming Permission Form Binder and required documentation
  • Instruct non‑aquatic staff in pool safety procedures as needed
  • Monitor and maintain pool chemical balance and sanitation standards
  • Inspect pool safety and mechanical equipment and report concerns
  • Assist individuals receiving services with pool entry/exit and use of flotation equipment
  • Respond to incidents, complete incident reports, and assist with investigations and corrective actions
  • Participate in training, professional development, and administrative tasks related to aquatic programming
