About The Position

The Practice Innovation Attorney will play a pivotal role in advancing the firm’s broader innovation objectives by identifying high-value opportunities to improve legal work, translating practice needs into practical technology- and GenAI-enabled solutions, and leading the adoption of new solutions by attorneys and legal professionals. The role will help shape how emerging technologies are evaluated, developed, and incorporated into legal practice in ways that are practical, scalable, responsible, and aligned with firm priorities. The role requires a strong understanding of legal practice, particularly litigation with a preferred focus on Labor & Employment, demonstrated familiarity with legal AI and GenAI tools (e.g., Harvey, Westlaw AI, Lexis+ AI, CoCounsel, or similar platforms), and the ability to translate complex technology capabilities into practical applications for legal professionals.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience or equivalent experience in legal technology, legal operations, or legal innovation roles.
  • Demonstrated experience with legal AI and GenAI platforms (e.g., Harvey, Westlaw AI, Lexis+ AI, CoCounsel, or similar tools).
  • Strong understanding of legal workflows, litigation processes, and how emerging technologies can be applied to common legal tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, develop practical recommendations, and lead cross-functional initiatives from concept through adoption.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advise and influence diverse audiences and translate complex technical concepts into practical guidance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments and practice groups, with strong judgment and project leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in labor and employment law or litigation practice.
  • Experience with change management or technology adoption initiatives in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Familiarity with eDiscovery platforms, document management systems, and legal research databases.
  • Prior experience working with legal innovation or practice technology teams.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technology, process improvement, or AI adoption initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Engage practice leaders, attorneys, and business professionals to identify recurring challenges, inefficiencies, and opportunities for innovation and AI-enabled improvement.
  • Evaluate and prioritize opportunities based on practice value, feasibility, risk, scalability, and alignment with firm priorities.
  • Map current and future-state legal workflows and define practical requirements for selected solutions.
  • Develop recommendations for how GenAI and other emerging technologies can improve legal workflows, client service, and the delivery of legal services.
  • Translate legal and business requirements into clear use cases, workflows, and functional requirements.
  • Partner with legal engineers, knowledge management, IT, and vendors to develop, test, and refine solutions.
  • Design and conduct legal workflow testing, including output review, issue identification, and documentation of appropriate use and limitations.
  • Help develop safeguards, guidance, and escalation paths for responsible use of AI and other emerging technologies.
  • Lead adoption efforts for assigned tools and use cases, including demonstrations, targeted training, coaching, communications, and workflow integration.
  • Collaborate with HR Learning and Professional Development teams to integrate innovation and AI initiatives into onboarding, attorney development, and ongoing learning programs.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to practice leaders and knowledge management on the responsible and effective use of firm-approved AI and GenAI tools.
  • Develop practical playbooks, prompt guidance, examples, and quick-reference resources to facilitate effective use and adoption.
  • Establish feedback channels and use adoption and user feedback data to improve solutions, workflows, and user experience.
  • Monitor legal AI capabilities, developments in professional responsibility guidance, and relevant changes in legal service delivery.
  • Assess new platform features and recommend whether and how they should be introduced into firm workflows.
  • Share lessons learned and reusable approaches through the Innovation Center of Excellence and other appropriate firm forums.
  • Identify emerging opportunities and advise firm leadership on trends, capabilities, and potential applications that advance firmwide innovation objectives.
