About The Position

Under the direction of a provider, the Clinical Assistant provides general support and functions for the Medical Assistant and practice. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. This role involves travel between practice locations, sometimes with little notice. The work requires high levels of mental/visual fatigue, involving interactive and repetitive tasks or detailed work requiring sustained alertness and concentration. It also involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of lightweight objects (20 pounds or less), and assisting with heavier tasks such as patient movement. Minor straining or fatiguing positions and motions are required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for visit including histories, vital signs, and routine testing of hearing, vision, or point-of-care testing.
  • Inputs data from patient questionnaires.
  • Sets up room for procedures.
  • Acts as a chaperone for providers.
  • Prepares instruments for reprocessing.
  • Maintains documentation standards and reviews charts prior to appointments to ensure requests and documents are in place.
  • Accurately documents required information in patient charts.
  • Schedules outside tests or procedures for patients in other departments or facilities (e.g., x-ray, MRI).
  • Coordinates admissions and referrals.
  • Cleans and stocks exam rooms with supplies as needed.
  • Conducts day-to-day inventory of supplies and reports items to be ordered.
  • Assists patients with check-in and check-out.
  • Assists in the scheduling of appointments in the EMR system as required.
  • Answers phone and directs calls appropriately.
  • Confirms upcoming patient appointments.
  • Assists in the completion of miscellaneous patient forms (Worker Compensation, FMLA, Disability, etc.).
  • Attends staff, educational, or other meetings as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by medical assistant, nurses, practice manager, or providers within their scope.
