About The Position

Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NEDHSA) is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Reaching Independence through Support and Education (R.I.S.E.) team. This team serves pregnant women in recovery from substance use disorders and their dependent children. The incumbent receives supervision from the Behavioral Health Inpatient Facility Manager and follows established standards of the nursing profession.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state plus two years of experience as a licensed practical nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and prepares charts for medication management with necessary paperwork to include AIM, informed consent for meds, forms for lab monitoring, reassessment forms, and psychiatric update forms.
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing detoxification, residential treatment, and recovery services.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records and documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs, withdrawal symptoms, mental status, and overall condition.
  • Observe patients for signs of medical or psychiatric emergencies and promptly report changes in condition.
  • Maintain appropriate licensing and certifications, providing yearly verification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to assure the smooth operation of the organization.
  • Adhere to all LDH, NEDHSA, Civil Service, and professional standards, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in in-service training for staff and complete required training.
  • Participate in behavioral health outreach initiatives.
  • Observes clients to assess total health/clinic response to medications and interview clients individually during med management clinics to include: screening for present mental illness, vital signs (b/p, pulse, respirations, temperature), and BMI calculations (weight, and height).
  • Conduct AIMS assessments, provide crisis intervention, med education, monitoring, administration (if needed), and med management for adults with mental illness.
  • Initiate treatment plans and schedule reassessments for med track clients, schedule initial and follow-up med management appointments for all clients, and adhere to UM guidelines.
  • Contact local pharmacies for clients, initiate and complete prior authorizations, diagnosis codes, and overrides for medications.

  • NEDHSA is a designated approved National Health Service Corps (NHSC) site. Clinicians who work at NHSC-approved sites are eligible to apply to the NHSC Loan Repayment Program to pay off student loans.
  • 2-year Full-Time Clinical Practice: NHSC will pay up to $50,000 for an initial 2 years of full-time clinical practice to clinicians. (Full-time clinical practice is defined as no less than 40 hours per week, for a minimum of 45 weeks per year.)
