About The Position

Tin Can is building a safer, simpler way for kids to connect without smartphones, creating screen-free devices and services that let families call loved ones, free from digital noise. They are building a bold, authentic, nostalgic, and quirky brand that appeals to those seeking a simpler, better alternative for their children's lives. As they prepare to scale, they are seeking a PR Coordinator to help achieve their growth goals. The PR Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Communications, taking ownership of daily tasks to establish Tin Can as a recognized name among media and parents. This role requires a proactive, scrappy, and curious individual who is deeply engaged with the news cycle and can identify "Tin Can stories." The coordinator will be the driving force behind Tin Can's earned media presence and product placement, cultivating relationships with reporters in parenting, consumer, and tech sectors, monitoring industry trends, and ensuring Tin Can's visibility. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented yet agile, enjoys building media lists and connecting with reporters, and takes pride in developing a brand's media presence from the ground up.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of PR or communications experience, ideally with exposure to consumer, lifestyle, parenting, or tech accounts (internships count).
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to adapt tone for different communication types.
  • A genuine interest in media and the news cycle, with the ability to identify and pursue story angles.
  • Sharp organizational instincts, capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a bias toward action.
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach.

Nice To Haves

  • Agency experience is a strong plus.
  • Experience with Muckrack.
  • Existing knowledge of reporters who cover relevant beats.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and send sharp, tailored pitches to top-tier consumer and parenting/lifestyle press.
  • Transform Tin Can news, moments, and stories into coverage across relevant outlets.
  • Build and maintain up-to-date, well-organized media lists across key beats (parenting, tech, business, consumer/lifestyle, etc.).
  • Maintain a constant pulse on the news cycle and the broader conversation around kids and tech.
  • Flag timely opportunities for Tin Can to join conversations and keep the team informed of relevant developments.
  • Help draft and edit press releases, media alerts, briefing documents, fact sheets, and other written materials.
  • Coordinate product reviews, gifting, and hands-on placements to secure media coverage.
  • Help manage the editorial calendar, tracking key dates, launches, and moments for timely outreach.
  • Track press coverage, monitor results, and help compile recaps of performance.
  • Prepare briefing documents, conduct research, coordinate logistics, and provide general team support.
