About The Position

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise. This internship is a part of a 10-week full-time summer internship program opportunity. This role will be based at Archer’s headquarters in San Jose, California and relocation or housing will not be provided. We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Technical Operations Intern to join our Powertrain team. The ideal candidate won’t mind getting involved across the Powertrain operations to help as we scale and should have proficiency in CAD software to design simple projects. You’ll get experience with industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, project/program management, and operations.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Comfortable in hands-on, fast-moving environments (shop floor, lab, prototype builds)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a bias toward action
  • Organized thinker who can turn tribal knowledge into clear documentation
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities
  • Intermediate knowledge in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, NX, or similar)
  • Strong communicator who can work across engineering, operations, and leadership
  • Curious, resourceful, and not afraid to ask questions

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Excel/Google Sheets, CAD, Python, SQL, or basic data analysis
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with engineering and operations to keep day-to-day execution moving
  • Help bring order to chaos by documenting processes, creating work instructions, and improving workflows
  • Collect and analyze operational data to identify bottlenecks, quality issues, and improvement opportunities
  • Assist with inventory tracking, tooling organization, and material flow as we scale
  • Own small but meaningful projects end-to-end (from problem definition to implementation)
