We are currently offering an excellent opportunity to join our team as a Powertrain Maintenance Mechanic Apprentice at our Hagerstown, MD facility. Our program is in partnership with UAW Local 171 and the State of Maryland. Prior experience in this type of role is not required; we will support you as you develop your skills. This is a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn! The apprenticeship program gives you the opportunity to become a skilled Powertrain Maintenance Mechanic. Upon successful completion of the program, you will earn a UAW Journeyman card, opening the door to excellent career opportunities and long-term prospects.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of background check, physical, and drug screening requirements.
  • Successful completion of ACT WorkKeys testing as part of the selection process.
  • Strong verbal, written, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation, leveling, alignment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of machinery, equipment, and related support structures.
  • Learn to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and facility systems, including motors, gearboxes, cylinders, conveyors, HVAC components, fans, dust collectors, and plumbing-related equipment.
  • Support preventative and proactive maintenance activities on robotics, assembly stations, conveyance systems, CNC/NC machining centers, logistics equipment, racking systems, and related industrial equipment.
  • Assist with diagnosing equipment issues and replacing worn, damaged, or failing machine components.
  • Learn to safely operate and manipulate automated equipment using HMIs, remote controls, teach pendants, and other control devices for troubleshooting and repair verification.
  • Assist with basic fabrication, welding, and build-out of assembly line racking, tables, fixtures, carts, and related shop projects.
  • Read and interpret mechanical prints, schematics, technical manuals, and other maintenance documentation.
  • Work with maintenance personnel, engineers, operators, and production leadership to support troubleshooting and root cause analysis activities.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, PPE, and other site-specific safety requirements while working around industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Document completed work, maintenance activities, troubleshooting steps, and training progress as required.
  • Attend and successfully complete required related instruction, on-the-job training, assessments, and apprenticeship program requirements.
  • Use maintenance systems, computers, and Microsoft Office applications to support communication, documentation, and training requirements.
  • Be willing to work assigned shifts, overtime, and schedule changes based on business and training needs.
  • All other duties as assigned.
