About The Position

This Powertrain Design Manager position entails leading a team of Powertrain Design Staff, including Layout Designers and Engineers, as they support various Powertrain projects and processes. The role involves identifying and managing design-related opportunities to improve product and process quality, leading Design Staff career development through assessments and performance reviews, and holding staff meetings to provide business and Powertrain updates. The manager will collaborate with project teams, architects, and module leads to determine resource support for projects and provide mentorship for Powertrain Peer Team members in areas such as engineering calculations, tolerance stack-up analysis, GD&T, and 3D-CAD design. A key aspect of the role is ensuring the team delivers the highest design standards and guiding them through formal problem-solving methods. Excellent presentation skills are required to influence a wide range of audiences.

Requirements

  • 10+ years with BS in Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in engine design
  • Quality and customer focused
  • Design and development experience required
  • Experience leading multi-person Design Teams
  • Experience with GD&T, FMEA, DRBFM, DFM, DFA, and dimensional tolerance stack-ups
  • Creative, innovative, decisive and prone to action
  • Possess and apply a broad knowledge of principals, practices and procedures to the completion of difficult technical problems and projects
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
  • High level of people skills, able to lead a diverse team
  • Ability to motivate people
  • Ability to work with cross functional partners
  • Familiarity with CREO 3D CAD modeling software

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Powertrain Design Staff (Layout Designers and Engineers) supporting Powertrain projects and processes.
  • Identify and manage design-related opportunities to improve product and process quality.
  • Lead Design Staff career development by completing assessment reviews and annual performance reviews.
  • Hold staff meetings with direct reports to provide Polaris business and general Powertrain updates.
  • Work with project teams, architects, and module leads to determine resource support for various projects.
  • Provide mentorship for Powertrain Peer Team members performing engineering calculations for basic stress and strength, tolerance stack-up analysis, and GD&T.
  • Mentor team members creating 3D-CAD designs of engine parts, assemblies, and subassemblies, including detailed drafting, dimensioning, and tolerancing for problem resolution.
  • Hold the team accountable for delivering the highest level of design standards.
  • Act as a key enabler and guide teams through formal problem-solving methods.
  • Present and influence a wide range of audiences at varying levels.
