We are looking for a dynamic individual with exceptional customer service and technical skills. Working in a non-routine and complex environment, the Powerline Technician Apprentice is accountable for executing the maintenance, construction, and repair of the overhead and underground distribution systems within set timelines.

Requirements

  • Completion of the Powerline Technician Program at a recognized post-secondary institution with a diploma
  • Previous Electrical Utility experience
  • Able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
  • Demonstrated experience working with required tools
  • Ability to work all shifts including weekends, as required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a Windows environment and associated software applications
  • A valid Ontario Class AZ Driver's Licence (or valid G and must obtain DZ within 5 months of hire and AZ within 12 months of obtaining the DZ licence) with an excellent driving record
  • Well versed in the IHSA Safe Work practices guide and Electrical Utility Safety Rules

Nice To Haves

  • Co-op experience is an asset
  • Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (IHSA) Trades Training Program for the Powerline Technician, completion of Level 2, is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Build, operate, and complete overhead work on energized primary and secondary systems
  • Build, operate, and complete work on energized underground systems, cables, terminations, and splicing
  • Install and maintain streetlights
  • Perform regular stand-by duty and emergency callouts
  • Troubleshoot and analyze underground and overhead line faults with the use of proper tools, operating maps, service maps, and experienced observation
  • Check, repair and/or replace tools and equipment
  • Install wooden, concrete, steel, and fiberglass poles
  • Install and replace domestic meters
  • Install cable in trenches and make all connections
  • Maintain line vehicles dielectric capacity by cleaning and repairing boom, bucket, and jib
