About The Position

The successful candidate will possess at minimum a valid 3rd Class Stationary Engineer Certificate. This position will be used as Powerhouse Engineer/Operator joining a crew of 4 people. The role will report into the Maintenance Frontline Leader.

Responsibilities

  • Own and operate all functions of the facility Powerhouse on a shift-by-shift basis
  • Fire/Alarm System Monitoring and critical liaison between Quaker Staff and Peterborough Emergency Services during Emergency Response events as well as during routine maintenance throughout the plant.
  • Operation of 2 Thermogenics Coil Tube 500 HP Steam Boilers to include daily testing/correction of water chemistry. Routine checks for proper operation/safety concerns. Adjust for steam load variations (number of boilers) to allow for seamless operations and flow to production. Work through out plant adjusting steam valves to properly balance heat loads. Assure proper function and provide support during heat runs. Monitor and maintain Heat Recovery System.
  • Control/operation and maintenance of plant air supply through 1 Atlas Copco 400HP Variable speed twin screw compressor, 1 Ingersoll Rand Centac Centrifugal 600HP and 2 Ingersoll Rand Centac Centrifugal 400 HP air compressors.
  • Operate/Maintain plant Cooling loop. Through daily checks ensure proper water chemistry. Cleaning of roof top cooling towers to reduce sediment build up as well as prevent bacteria growth.
  • Powerhouse system/equipment recovery during Hydro interruptions both scheduled and unscheduled. Assist with equipment restarts and recovery throughout the facility.
  • Compete preventative maintenance and ensure we are meeting all regulatory requirements of said equipment/systems
  • Unloading and maintaining salt levels for softeners/dealkalizers
  • Ensure Proper Use of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Software) - Avantis is used, and policies followed for all maintenance transactions.
  • Primary point of contact for many off hours duties such as evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Boiler room sanitation: Solely responsible for cleaning and maintaining the boiler room including emptying garbage’s/recycling and cleaning operator’s office and washroom/shower area.
  • Unloading Delivery Trucks: Designated forklift in the Boiler room for unloading maintenance related deliveries.
  • Filter changes on HVAC Units throughout the plant
  • Assist in Hot Work Permit fire watches and sign offs
  • Vacation coverage – Provide coverage for vacation of fellow Stationary Engineers as currently plant coverage is required 24/7 365 days a year.
