The primary purpose of this position is to provide applied electrical engineering and technical expertise for customers in the areas of power systems studies, power quality analysis, installation, startup, maintenance, and repair. Responsibilities include inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, performing start-ups, and collecting data for low, medium, and high voltage (up to 500kV) electrical systems. This includes MCCs, Breakers, moderately complex relay calibration, and power metering. The role involves testing and calibrating electro-mechanical and solid-state relays, as well as low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing. The position requires rotating emergency on-call duty and responding to customer emergencies in a timely manner. Additionally, the role involves performing power system engineering assessments in areas of protection, short-circuit calculation, arc-flash hazard analysis, and design improvements for medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems. This includes assessing results, preparing written reports of findings, proposals, and improvement solutions, and performing electrical design improvements to support facility upgrades. The engineer will meet customers on-site to review and identify needs, provide engineering cost estimates and bid proposals, and utilize engineering skills and applicable codes and standards to implement safe, dependable, and cost-effective electrical systems. Technical support and quality control for assigned projects are also key responsibilities. The role demands proficiency in reading and interpreting power system wiring diagrams, including DC elementary drawings, and the ability to work safely while adhering to all electrical safety procedures. A solid theoretical understanding of electricity and a good aptitude for problem-solving are essential. Effective verbal and written communication with customers and peers, dependability, responsibility, good judgment, and organizational skills are required.
