About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is hiring graduate students for its Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Summer Institute (CSI) to work on power systems resilience and security topics aligned with LLNL’s national security missions. The summer 2027 program offers start dates from May 17 through June 21, 2027, and flexible end dates through September 24, 2027. Projects may address energy infrastructure modernization and resilience, critical infrastructure security, and defense critical infrastructure. Participants can also take part in professional and technical development activities with laboratory subject matter experts, network with interns and employees, and learn about LLNL’s national security work. Interns provide technical and research support to scientists, engineers, and technical staff. Under limited direction and supervision, they conduct research in assigned areas, complete basic-complexity technical assignments, and support scientific research and development projects. They attend at least one relevant on-site seminar or training class per week and present their work through presentations or poster sessions. Full-time on-site presence is required. The position is a student internship and requires work by a U.S. person because it involves U.S. Export Control. External applicants selected for the role must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. Assignments exceeding 179 cumulative days in a calendar year require a Personal Identity Verification process, including an online background investigation and approval, except for foreign nationals. Certain laboratory areas restrict possession of mobile and wireless devices.
