About The Position

JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges. A Power Systems Field Engineer performs as a lead on more complex field engineering assignments involving the installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of the Utah Test and Training Range's critical power infrastructure.

Requirements

  • An associate's degree in engineering or other technical discipline, or formal academic/vocational/military training and a minimum of 12 years of experience in the specialty field are required for this position.
  • Broad knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices of engineering that enable performance as a senior technical contributor on complex projects or programs
  • Knowledge and skill sufficient to apply developments in engineering to solve problems in the specialty area
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs
  • Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational hardware and software
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Planning/organizational skills
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Must be eligible for a government security clearance
  • Must possess a state-issued driver's license, or other licenses/certifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct field engineering assignments for the Medium Voltage Power Grid (MVPG) and backup power systems, including both 15kV and 25kV underground grids.
  • Manage the complete lifecycle of power production systems, including the operation, testing, and maintenance of backup generators and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).
  • Oversee outside plant construction projects, specifically focusing on the installation, expansion, and sustainment of power distribution infrastructure.
  • Act as a primary liaison with commercial power providers (e.g., PacifiCorp, Mount Wheeler) and internal stakeholders to ensure grid stability and resolve issues.
  • Conduct site visits and experimental investigations to analyze complex engineering problems with the power grid, generators, or facility infrastructure; propose and implement effective solutions.
  • Apply broad technical knowledge to the design, installation, and sustainment of power system components, including pad-mount transformers, sectional cabinets, and load-break elbows.
  • Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation, including system specifications, maintenance procedures, and site diagrams for power assets.
  • Work closely with senior engineering staff to absorb institutional knowledge and prepare to assume technical ownership of the range's power infrastructure portfolio.
  • Support the development of technical proposals for power infrastructure upgrades and modernization efforts.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.
