About The Position

Eaton’s Electrical sector is currently seeking a Power Systems Automation Specialist to join our team. This position is based at our one of our Kitchener, ON or Mississauga, ON facility and offers benefits from day one as well as a company vehicle. The primary purpose of this role is to design, implement, and maintain Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) that support reliable and efficient facility operations. This position plays a critical role in bridging engineering, manufacturing, IT, and facility operations to deliver integrated, high-performance monitoring solutions. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians, you will leverage extensive expertise across a wide range of software platforms to create graphically rich, intuitive user experiences. Solutions include stand-alone, web-based, and cloud-connected applications tailored to meet diverse customer needs. In this role, you will develop and deploy custom, turnkey monitoring and energy management solutions that seamlessly integrate complex systems and devices from a wide variety of manufacturers into a unified platform. These systems provide advanced capabilities such as alarm management, data trending and analytics, energy reporting, and predictive analysis—empowering users with actionable insights and improved operational control.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or a Technologist Diploma in a technical discipline (Electrical/ Mechanical/ Systems/ Computer Engineering/ Computer Science).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting ICS (Industrial Control Systems) automation, PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) programming, HMI (Human Machine Interface) or SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition).
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, SNMP, Ethernet).
  • Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Business travel to customer sites is required.
  • Required to travel to United States for training on safety and Eaton products.
  • Legally authorized to work in the Canada without company sponsorship now or in future.
  • Must live within 80 km of the facility.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of experience working with industrial automation systems, PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMI (Human Machine Interface) or SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
  • Experience working with electrical distribution systems and electrical power metering.
  • Experience in the practice of safety precautions related to working with automation and electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience with MS Windows Server OS & MS SQL Server.
  • Experience with industrial networking (OT) hardware, including configuration, integration, and troubleshooting of switches and communication devices in operational technology environments (i.e. Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP).
  • Understanding of electrical control schematics and single line diagrams.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or MS Visio
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting, test and repair techniques.
  • Strong computer skills required with Windows Server Operating Systems and SQL Databases.
  • Basic networking skills including the ability to troubleshoot network hardware and interfaces.
  • Knowledge of electrical test equipment and diagnostic instruments.
  • Programming of PLC control systems an asset.
  • Knowledge of cyber security principles an asset.
  • Ability to interface with internal and external customers, salespeople, and other team members on a technical level.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication/presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated individual who can perform both independently and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and provide on-site implementation of Power Management and mission critical monitoring and control systems including Power Xpert, Foreseer, PowerNet, and next generation Brightlayer Electrical Power Monitoring Systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to electrical power monitoring and OT networks.
  • Analyze existing systems and processes and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, IT, manufacturing, contractors, and facility operations)
  • Quote advanced turnkey power monitoring systems. (analyze specifications, price all applicable labor and materials, write a proposed scope of work, etc.)
  • Develop documentation and post-job reports.
  • Provide training and support to end-users and technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, cybersecurity, and industry standards.
