About The Position

ISO New England’s Advanced Technology Solutions (ATS) group is seeking a Power System R&D Engineer to join the Emerging Technologies team. This role will involve analyzing critical issues, identifying new opportunities, and designing and implementing advanced technical solutions to enhance the reliability, resiliency, and efficiency of the New England power grid. The team's current expertise includes IBR/EMT modeling and simulation, Synchrophasor/PMU analytics, ML/AI applications, and probabilistic/risk analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in power system stability and control with experience in IBR/EMT technologies.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on power system stability and control.
  • Strong background in power system modeling, simulation, and analysis, including experience with IBRs in both phasor and EMT domains.
  • Advanced user of commercial tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, DSATools, PowerWorld, etc.
  • Hands-on software development experience in Python, Matlab, C#, Java, etc.
  • Good analytical, communication and presentation skills.
  • At least five years of experience for the Senior level, and eight years of experience for the Lead level.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance operations and planning software solutions to address current and evolving needs.
  • Evaluate current study tools and procedures, identify gaps, and develop technology roadmaps and solutions for reliable integration of renewable and inverter-based resources.
  • Provide comprehensive solutions for ISO's evolving EMT modeling and study needs.
  • Analyze, design, prototype, and recommend innovative engineering and software solutions to complex technical challenges for ISO business units.
  • Partner with leading research institutions and industry groups to advance state-of-the-art technologies.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, collaborate with business users to identify and define compelling use cases, and prototype innovative solutions for evolving system challenges.
