About The Position

The Power Systems Engineer executes electrical power system network analysis, site reliability and safety audits, performs electrical engineering design and provides solution-based engineering proposals. This role involves performing power system engineering analysis in areas such as coordination of protection, short-circuit calculation, arc-flash hazard analysis, power flow, and power quality. The engineer will also conduct site audits, design improvements for medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems, and product application. A key part of the role is evaluating analysis results and preparing written reports with findings, recommendations, and mitigation solutions. The engineer will perform electrical design improvements, primarily to support facility electrical distribution system upgrades, focusing on meeting sustainability goals (microgrids) and enhancing system safety and reliability. Collaboration with the Solutions Sales team and potential customers is essential for qualifying customer needs and identifying potential energy solutions. This includes meeting customers on-site, reviewing their needs, and providing engineering cost estimates and bid proposals. The role requires utilizing engineering skills and applicable codes and standards to implement safe, reliable, and economical electrical systems, providing technical support and quality control for assigned projects, and managing project timeline commitments to ensure long-term customer relationships. Availability to travel to various customer locations in Canada is also required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of cumulative experience in power engineering studies or electrical design experience in commercial or industrial projects
  • Experience with project engineering proposals, project development and customer presentations
  • Must have a P.Eng. License or be registered as an EIT
  • Must have strong communications skills to effectively communicate with customers, sales reps, and other technical support and inside staff

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a consulting engineering firm would be considered a strong asset
  • Microgrid and electrical site audit experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of a power system analysis software (PTW from SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, CYME) is considered an asset, preferably ETAP
  • Bilingual is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Perform power system engineering analysis of industrial and commercial electric power systems in the areas of coordination of protection, short-circuit calculation, arc-flash hazard analysis, power flow, power quality, site audits, design improvements of medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems, and product application
  • Evaluate analysis results and prepare written report of findings, recommendations, and mitigation solutions
  • Perform electrical design improvements primarily to support upgrades of facilities’ electrical distribution system in conjunction with the customers’ needs, specifically to meet sustainability goals (microgrids) and improve system safety and reliability
  • Work with Solutions Sales team and potential customers to help qualifying customer needs, and potential energy solutions
  • Meet customers on-site and review and identify their needs
  • Provide Engineering cost estimates and bid proposals
  • Utilize Engineering skills and applicable codes and standards to implement electrical systems that are safe, reliable, and economical
  • Provide technical support and quality control for assigned projects
  • Manage project timeline commitments to customers and ensure long-term relationships
