About The Position

The Power System Controller position is a full-time role within the System Communications department at Baldwin EMC, located in Summerdale, AL. This role involves monitoring, analyzing, and executing actions related to the operation of various systems including SCADA, distribution power grid, OMS, CIS, and AMI. The controller will also manage power issues, communicate vital information to various stakeholders, handle security using access control and video software, and perform other assigned duties. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field being preferred. Essential knowledge includes power systems, control circuits, remote terminal units, uninterruptible power supply systems, and security systems. Proficient computer skills in Windows, Excel, Word, and Outlook are necessary, along with strong initiative, independent judgment, decision-making, math, and reasoning skills. A valid driver's license is also required. The role is primarily performed in an office environment, but overtime, occasional weekend work, and some overnight/out-of-state travel may be required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have a well-developed working knowledge of power systems, control circuits, remote terminal units, un-interruptible power supply systems, and security systems.
  • Proficient computer skills with software applications (Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Must demonstrate personal initiative and independent judgement and possess good decision-making skills to effectively relate to and resolve issues.
  • Must possess good math and reasoning skills and have basic knowledge of the configurations, installations, and applications of electronic systems.
  • Valid driver's license.

  • Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors, analyzes, and executes appropriate actions related to operating the SCADA system and the distribution power grid, OMS system, CIS system, and AMI system.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and executes appropriate actions related to power issues.
  • Communicates vital information to members, other departments, power suppliers, emergency personnel, and other utilities.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and executes appropriate actions related to operating collections, AMI disconnects and reconnects.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and executes appropriate actions for security using access control software and video software to provide critical action for emergencies and facility issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
