About The Position

Facilities Management at JMU is currently accepting applications for a Power Plant Mechanical Supervisor. This position will safely and efficiently supervise and maintain all aspects of steam generation and distribution services throughout the University.

Requirements

  • Skilled use of hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment and mechanical abilities
  • Ability to maintain and repair power plant and related equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose a variety of mechanical problems
  • Accurately interpret blueprints, sketches, work orders, specifications and determine project requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret gauges, recorders and monitoring equipment
  • Possess proficient computer skills and be familiar with DEQ permitting regulations
  • Successful supervisory skills
  • In depth knowledge of applicable safety rules, regulations and procedures
  • Ability to perform complex record keeping tasks
  • Availability to work all shifts
  • Valid Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Providing skilled and effective supervision of personnel and operations
  • Maintenance repair, inspection and rebuilding of steam generating and chill water production systems
  • Operate all aspects of repair and maintenance procedures to power plant equipment; boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, valves, controls, steam traps, 3 phase electric motors and steam distribution systems
  • Supervise, train and teach employees proper procedures , repair techniques and safety issues
  • Troubleshooting problem areas and inspecting for defective equipment/faulty components
