About The Position

Fayetteville Public Works Commission is seeking a skilled Power Plant Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Technician to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of its power generation facilities. The position performs preventive, routine, and emergency maintenance on instrumentation, control, and electrical systems throughout the plant. The technician troubleshoots and maintains industrial control systems, electrical equipment, and plant instrumentation in a safety-focused environment. The role works in an active power plant and may involve exposure to equipment, mechanical and electrical systems, elevated noise levels, and other conditions associated with industrial power generation facilities. Required personal protective equipment must be worn in accordance with the PWC Safety Manual. The position participates in on-call rotations and responds to emergency maintenance needs as required.

Requirements

One of the following qualification paths: an associate degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, Electronic Technology, or a related field, plus 2 years of industrial instrumentation and control system maintenance experience; a high school diploma or equivalent, plus 4 years of that experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
Functional Employment Test (FET) required.
Must participate in on-call rotations and be able to report to the worksite within a specified timeframe.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Nice To Haves

Experience reading and interpreting electrical wiring diagrams and control schematics.
Familiarity with cable pulling techniques and conduit installation.

Responsibilities

Perform diagnostic testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of plant instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems.
Investigate equipment failures and recurring system issues and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain and repair transmitters, relays, motors, switchgear, gauges, tubing, electrical wiring, pressure switches, heat trace circuits, and valve control systems.
Assist with testing control, instrumentation, and electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Monitor maintenance and project work to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and plant standards.
Support troubleshooting and repair efforts for plant equipment and systems.
Maintain accurate calibration records, repair documentation, and equipment status files.
Participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergency maintenance needs as required.
