About The Position

Fayetteville Public Works Commission is seeking a skilled Power Plant Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Technician to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our power generation facilities. This position is responsible for performing preventive, routine, and emergency maintenance on instrumentation, control, and electrical systems throughout the plant. The ideal candidate will have experience troubleshooting and maintaining industrial control systems, electrical equipment, and plant instrumentation while working in a safety-focused environment.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, Electronic Technology, or a related field PLUS 2 years of industrial instrumentation and control system maintenance experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent PLUS 4 years of industrial instrumentation and control system maintenance experience
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Functional Employment Test (FET) required.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License required.
  • Must participate in on-call rotations and be able to report to the worksite within a specified timeframe.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

  • Understanding of electrical systems, motor control centers, and industrial maintenance practices.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical wiring diagrams and control schematics.
  • Familiarity with cable pulling techniques and conduit installation.
  • Ability to use testing, calibration, and maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of plant instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems.
  • Investigate equipment failures and recurring system issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain and repair transmitters, relays, motors, switchgear, gauges, tubing, electrical wiring, pressure switches, heat trace circuits, and valve control systems.
  • Assist with testing control, instrumentation, and electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Monitor maintenance and project work to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and plant standards.
  • Support troubleshooting and repair efforts for plant equipment and systems.
  • Maintain accurate calibration records, repair documentation, and equipment status files.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergency maintenance needs as required.
