About The Position

LionHeart is a veteran-owned power generation company seeking a Power Generation Technical Specialist to support our field service team and build expertise in electrical and mechanical systems. You will work alongside Electrical Engineers and experienced Field Service Veterans, supporting technicians as they troubleshoot and service mission-critical generators, ATS equipment, switchgear, controls and paralleling systems. This is where careers in power systems begin. As Technical Communicator I, you will work directly alongside experienced engineers and field service technicians on emergency power supply systems (EPSS) installed across commercial, industrial, and critical-facility sites predominantly in the Chicagoland area and throughout the Midwest. You will learn by doing — touching real equipment, reading real schematics, and supporting real projects from day one — guided by a structured mentorship program designed to grow yourself into a well-rounded Power Systems Engineer over time. This role is for motivated individuals who have graduated from a technical and/or engineering program with 0-5 years of industry experience who want to build deep, hands-on expertise in low and medium voltage power generation, controls, and system integration. Requirements

  • 0 – 5 years of industry experience
  • Coursework in electrical circuits, power systems, or control systems
  • Ability to read basic electrical or mechanical diagrams (schematics and ladder logic)
  • Basic computer proficiency: email, web browser, Microsoft Office suite
  • Willingness to adhere to OSHA and NFPA 70E electrical safety standards
  • Comfortable in both office and hands-on field environments
  • Strong work ethic, curiosity, and a commonsense problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a technical team, and part of a cross departmental team
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer sites
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist field service technicians from an office setting during their day-to-day field work repairs, installations, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of EPSS — including generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), switchgear, control equipment, and related auxiliary components.
  • Read, interpret, and markup electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings under technical team’s guidance.
  • Field emergency calls from customers to ensure clear and correct scope is dispatched.
  • Support creation and upkeep of engineering documentation: schematics, component software files, technical manuals, maintenance logs, checklists, method of procedure (MOP) documents, and service reports.
  • Develop hands-on proficiency with generator systems, including diesel fuel systems, cooling systems, exhaust systems, and associated controls.
  • Build existing working knowledge of EPSS control systems including ANSI protective relays, and power distribution components. Basler, Schweitzer, etc.
  • Build existing working knowledge level of control systems regarding PLCs hardware and software: GE Fanuc 90-30, RX3i, etc hardware (and Proficy PME Software), Schneider Modicon Quantum, Premium, TSX, M340, etc hardware (and EcoStruxure software).
  • Build existing working knowledge level of CAD tools for schematic markup and circuit analysis software (ETAP, SKM, or equivalent) with guidance provided.
  • Travel locally with field service teams to customer sites to observe, assist, and manage technical multi-day projects.
  • Strictly follow and enforce OSHA, NFPA 70E, and all applicable safety regulations for electrical safe work practices.
  • Participate in structured mentorship curriculum, training courses, and complete assigned training milestones.
  • Support remote assistance to field engineers during escalated events.
  • Independently handle caseload providing technical assistance across companywide deliverables.
