About The Position

Universal Rail Solutions is seeking a safety-focused, mechanically skilled Power Engineer to support day-to-day operations at their facility. This role involves hands-on work, problem-solving, and contributing to reliable, efficient plant operations. The company's mission is to keep Canada's railway operators moving safely and sustainably.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience as a Power Engineer required
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond effectively to plant alarms
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Physical capability to perform all job tasks
  • Competence in the use and care of tools and equipment related to plant operations
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation trades
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Monitor plant and terminal performance from the field and respond to operational requirements and alarms
  • Safely operate and maintain terminal and plant systems, including railcar loading and switching activities, truck offloading operations, liquid sulphur degassing and H₂S scrubbing systems, wet prilling and material handling systems (including stockpile conveying), and liquid railcar loading and rail car mover operations
  • Operate heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, skid steers, EWPs, and RCM units
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on plant and terminal equipment; document all maintenance and inspection activities
  • Perform minor maintenance, troubleshooting, and caretaking duties across the facility
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, fueled, and operating in accordance with preventative maintenance schedules
  • Maintain accurate operational records, including shift logs, inspection sheets, and reporting documentation
  • Complete and support site administrative and safety requirements, including work permits, site orientations, hazard identification and reporting, and incident and accident reporting and investigation
  • Follow and ensure compliance with all operating procedures, safety standards, and environmental regulations
  • Utilize tools, equipment, and systems (including PLC systems) effectively to support plant operations
  • Communicate effectively with the Shift Lead and team to ensure daily operational targets are met
  • Perform other related duties as required
