About The Position

Power Conversion Hardware Design Engineer - positions offered by Ford Motor Company (Dearborn, Michigan). Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the aforementioned worksite. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance from the aforementioned worksite. Responsible for the specification, design, development, and validation of on-board power conversion modules. Act as the Subject Matter Expert of vehicle installed power converters and provide technical guidance to D&R, test, and systems engineers on the team. Develop and ensure robust interface with vehicle and accessory modules. Lead design reviews and worst-case circuit analysis. Develop and work with supplier and Ford approved test lab to execute EMC test plan. Develop a solution that meet regional standards and code compliance including IEC, GBT, UL and CE standards from IEEE, and others. Ensure design meets functional safety standards. Provide HW support to resolve user concerns, investigate and troubleshoot system faults and errors. Stay connected with focus groups and forums to stay at the forefront of technology advancements in order to keep the team abreast of the latest technological solutions. Domestic and International Travel Required up to 10%.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Power Electronics, Electrical and Computer Engineering or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
  • 2 years of experience with use of various power converter topologies AC/DC, DC/DC, or DC/AC.
  • 2 years of experience with hardware circuit simulation and component selection.
  • 2 years of experience with use of characteristics of magnetics and high-power semiconductor switching devices, including SiC and GaN.
  • 2 years of experience with use of the thermal and EMC challenges of high-power converter design.
  • 2 years of experience with use of various power converter-related safety and performance standards and code compliance including IEC, IEEE, UL and SAE.
  • 2 years of experience writing test plans and conducting lab tests for high-power converter performance verification and debugging.
  • 2 years of experience conducting failure analysis using tools including 8D and working with suppliers to resolve product quality issues.

Responsibilities
