About The Position

This is the entry/training level in the powder preparation worker series. Positions in this class normally perform a wide variety of unskilled and semiskilled physical tasks in the powder preparation work. The work performed is observed and proficiency is reviewed every 90-180-270-360 days. As the employee progresses in skill the difficulty and variety of work will increase. During the 90 day benchmarks the employee will have a skill competency test as well as a formal review. If the employee successfully and consistently passes and proves independence as a Class 1, they will have the opportunity to move to a Class 2 position. There is no training or supervision of others.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • If no experience upon hire, successful completion of the General Carbide Career Academy.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Nice To Haves

  • May be required to learn how to operate a forklift and/or scissor lift as well as pallet jacks and sky jacks.

Responsibilities

  • Weighs and maintains identity of powders, performing simple mathematical calculations to determine weight of additives.
  • Operates equipment such as presses, granulators, fitz mills, scales, ball mills and dryers.
  • Co-ordinates ball milling, drying cycles and blending of correct proportions of ingredients of powder for ball milling, in accordance with pre-determined guidelines.
  • Spot checks vibrator sieves to maintain quality and contamination-free product.
  • Collects and granulates revert materials.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventories of powders.
  • Loads and discharges ball mills, discharges dryers.
  • Operates other equipment such as heptane storage, condenser and vibrating screens, load and unload V-Blenders.
  • Removes balls from ball mills, sorts and cleans and reloads as directed.
  • Maintains files and records and answers inquiries regarding powder preparation.
  • Performs routine maintenance and keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  • Responsible for tools and fixtures used in work area and performs ancillary duties related to the powder preparation department.
  • Performs ancillary duties related to the powder department.
  • Observes safety and health regulations.
