About The Position

Calyx Containers is seeking a Pouch Machine Operator for their night shift in Salt Lake City. This full-time, on-site role involves operating a pouch-making machine to convert printed, laminated film into finished pouches. The operator will be responsible for setting up the machine, performing changeovers independently, maintaining quality throughout the production run, and documenting all relevant data. This position is for someone who can work autonomously in a smaller night crew environment, diagnose and resolve machine issues, and ensure product quality and safety standards are met. The role offers a clear path for growth and increased compensation based on machine certifications and demonstrated skills.

Requirements

  • 1+ year operating a pouch-making machine, bag machine, or similar flexible packaging converting equipment.
  • Experience on SunCentre pouching machine or similar.
  • Ability to perform a full machine changeover without supervision.
  • Ability to work night shift and/or weekends.
  • Comfort reading a job ticket and spec sheet, and working with a tape measure or calipers.
  • Accurate record-keeping of run and quality data.
  • Physically able to stand through a full shift and lift up to 50 lbs, with roll handling assisted by equipment.
  • Reliable attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with stand-up pouches, zipper application, or child-resistant packaging.
  • Experience with flexible packaging, film, or roll-to-roll converting.
  • Forklift or pallet jack certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Setup and changeover of the pouch-making machine, unassisted.
  • Loading film, setting seal temperatures, dwell, and pressure.
  • Setting up zippers, punches, and cuts to achieve the first good pouch quickly.
  • Running the job while holding registration, seal quality, and dimensions.
  • Keeping production moving according to the schedule.
  • Performing quality checks, including seal integrity, dimensions, zipper function, and print-to-cut registration.
  • Diagnosing and correcting common problems such as weak or wrinkled seals, registration drift, zipper misalignment, and film tracking.
  • Recording run data, counts, downtime, and quality checks completely for shift handoffs.
  • Tracking film usage, minimizing setup waste and scrap, and reporting yield honestly.
  • Performing daily cleaning and operator-level preventive maintenance.
  • Escalating machine issues that require further attention.
  • Following lockout/tagout, guarding, and PPE requirements without shortcuts.
