About The Position

Dr. Andrew Hung is looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join a diverse team at the Center for Autonomous Robotic Surgery. This role will be a key member of the center, expected to work independently under the direction of the PI and in close cooperation with other research staff and thought-leaders in surgical robotics. The incumbent may be an ongoing member of a research team or employed for a limited period to contribute high-level skills to a specific research program. This role will play a pivotal role in data analytics and supervised and unsupervised development of machine learning models to provide the framework for fully automating surgical robotic tasks. Experience utilizing skills in computer science and mechanical engineering to employ these AI tools to functioning robotic systems is preferred.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree required. PhD or MD/PhD in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in robotics and computer vision research, implemented on real-life systems (required).
  • Proven track record of publications as first-author (as well as co-author) papers in robotics, computer vision, and/or machine learning: ICRA, IROS, RSS, T-RO, CoRL, IJRR, CVPR, ICCV, SIGGRAPH, MICCAI, TBME, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, Nature portfolio and Science portfolio.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently on research projects within the area of specialization.
  • Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection and analysis, and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and maintenance of specialized equipment.

Responsibilities

  • May assist in preparation of grant proposals, but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
  • May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
  • Designs and performs experiments. Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator.
  • May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
  • Analyzes, interprets, summarizes and compiles data.
  • Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout the training period.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
