The Ultrasound in Imaging and Therapy (UIT) Lab, led by Dr. Mohamed Almekkawy, in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar in Ultrasound Imaging. The successful candidate will contribute to a recently funded five-year multidisciplinary research project focused on developing advanced ultrasound technologies for quantitative brain imaging and tissue characterization. The project centers on the development of a dedicated ultrasound platform that integrates hardware and system development with data acquisition, signal processing, computational imaging, and image reconstruction. The research involves close collaboration with investigators and clinicians at Penn State College of Medicine and Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, providing opportunities for both engineering development and translational imaging studies. As a Postdoctoral Scholar, you will play a central role in the design, development, integration, and validation of the ultrasound platform. The work will involve ultrasound system and hardware development, including PCB design, FPGA-based components, transmit/receive electronics, system synchronization, and high-speed data acquisition. You will also develop signal-processing and image-reconstruction methods for quantitative tissue-property estimation. Additional responsibilities will include processing raw RF/channel data, developing research software, and investigating computational imaging and inverse-problem approaches. Experimental work will include system characterization and validation using tissue-mimicking phantoms, ex vivo specimens, and clinical imaging studies involving human participants under approved research protocols. The Postdoctoral Scholar will work closely with engineering researchers, clinicians, and other members of the multidisciplinary project team in the design, execution, and evaluation of these studies.
