About The Position

The National Synthesis Center for Emergence in the Molecular and Cellular Sciences (NCEMS) at Penn State University seeks an outstanding scientist to fill a Postdoctoral Scholar position in Computational Biology. NCEMS is an NSF-funded interdisciplinary research center focused on the integration of diverse datasets to understand emergent phenomena in molecular and cellular biology. The successful candidate will conduct original computational biology research using large-scale public datasets, multi-omics integration, biological data harmonization, and systems-level analysis, collaborating with faculty at NCEMS. This position is designed to foster the scholar's development as an independent researcher within a collaborative synthesis science environment. This is a full-time, on-site position at the Penn State University Park campus, with no remote work permitted. The appointment is funded for one year from the date of hire, with a high likelihood of multiple years of renewal based on mutual agreement.

Requirements

  • PhD in Computational Biology or Systems Biology.
  • Strong foundation in computational analysis of molecular and cellular biology data.
  • Expertise in Python and/or R.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, evidenced by a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Independent self-starter with a strong work ethic.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with large-scale biological datasets, including genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, lipidomic, epigenomic, interactomic, structural, glycomic, or single-cell multi-omics data.
  • Familiarity with biological databases and public data repositories, such as NCBI, GEO, SRA, ENA, UniProt, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct original computational biology research involving large-scale public datasets.
