About The Position

The Gadani Lab is a new translational neuroimmunology group focused on understanding the mechanisms behind progressive multiple sclerosis, glial cell reactivity, and regulatory T cell biology. Our research utilizes mouse models of CNS autoimmunity, single-cell and spatial genomics, multiplex tissue imaging, and analysis of human patient samples, with the ultimate goal of translating findings into clinical applications. The lab is situated within the Pittsburgh Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (PIND) and is an integral part of the broader neuroscience and immunology communities at the University of Pittsburgh. We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to lead investigations into Treg–glia interactions within the nervous system. This is a funded position for a hypothesis-driven project at the intersection of CNS immunology, glial biology, and translational MS research. The successful candidate will take ownership of a primary research focus, including data interpretation, hypothesis refinement, and experimental design, with the objective of publishing a significant first-author manuscript. Postdocs will join a dynamic neuroscience and neuroimmunology community and have opportunities to foster collaborations. Our commitment is to train the next generation of independent researchers, providing mentorship for strong first-author publications, F32 and K99 applications, and successful career transitions into academia or industry.

Requirements

  • PhD, MD/PhD, or MD with substantial research experience in immunology, neuroscience, cell biology, or a related field.
  • A track record of productivity commensurate with career stage, typically including one or more first-author publications or preprints.
  • Scientific curiosity and the discipline to follow projects through to publication.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated technical experience in mouse models of CNS or autoimmune disease is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with flow cytometry, single-cell or spatial transcriptomics, and fluorescence or confocal microscopy would be beneficial.
  • Candidates pursuing a second postdoc are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a primary research project, including experiment design and planning, data collection and analysis, and manuscript preparation.
  • Apply and develop techniques relevant to your project, including flow cytometry of CNS populations, single-cell RNA sequencing, multiplex immunohistochemistry, EAE and other relevant animal models, and primary cell culture.
  • Present findings at major meetings.
  • Develop and submit individual fellowship applications with hands-on grantsmanship mentoring from the PI.
  • Help mentor students and share in the day-to-day intellectual and operational functions of the lab, including stewardship of the mouse colony, promotion of safe lab practices, and contributing to lab meetings / journal clubs.

Benefits

  • Competitive postdoctoral salary and full benefits
  • A well-resourced environment with access to Pitt and UPMC core facilities for flow cytometry, imaging, sequencing, and biostatistics
  • Regular collaboration with practicing MS neurologists and access to human patient samples for the translational arms of the work
  • Active mentoring in research, grant writing, manuscript preparation, public speaking, and career development for roles in academia or industry
  • A collaborative neuroscience ecosystem across Pitt and Carnegie Mellon, in a city with a low cost of living and high quality of life
  • Visa sponsorship available for qualified international candidates
