About The Position

Professor Trung Van Nguyen, the PI of the Electrochemical Engineering Research Group at the University of Kansas, is seeking to hire a postdoctoral researcher for an experimental project with the University of Michigan. This project focuses on studying the chemical properties of supersaturated metal salt electrolytes and their nucleation and gel formation kinetics. The goal is to develop processes to synthesize this gel for redox flow battery applications. The PI is looking for motivated individuals with research experience in metal salt chemistry, synthesis, chemical reactor design, and development. Preference will be given to candidates with extensive experience in nucleation and gel formation chemistry, membrane separation, and flow reactor design, modeling, development, and testing. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of reappointment based on performance and funding availability. To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, a PhD is required. Appointments without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires, not to exceed 3 months. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the appointment date.

Requirements

  • PhD in applied chemistry and chemical engineering.
  • Experience with metal salt electrolytes and nucleation and gel formation kinetics, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Experience with membrane separation, batch reactor, and flow reactor design, modeling, development, and testing, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Publications, presentations, or other evidence of scholarly achievement in these areas, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
