About The Position

The University of Virginia School of Data Science is recruiting for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join Tom Hartvigsen’s research group. The successful candidate will focus on developing multi-modal machine learning methods for time series analysis. The School of Data Science is the first of its kind in the nation, founded in 2019, and aims to advance discovery, innovation, and societal impact through collaborative, open, and responsible data science research and education. It brings together expertise from various disciplines to address complex, real-world challenges and offers a range of academic programs.

Requirements

PhD degree in computer science, data science, or related fields
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Track record of top-tier machine learning publications
Robust machine learning and natural language processing skills
Proficient computer programming skills

Nice To Haves

Experience designing language model or vision-language model architectures
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, and written and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and creatively

Responsibilities

Develop and evaluate novel machine learning methods
Mentor student research
