About The Position

The University of Arizona Department of Astronomy and Steward Observatory invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate conducting research related to high-contrast imaging, high-angular-resolution observations, and interferometry with the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT). The position will integrate with the Large Binocular Telescope Interferometer (LBTI) group and contribute to a collaborative scholarly environment through research, mentoring, and service. Work will support observations with LBTI, SHARK-NIR, and SHARK-VIS, and the scientific exploitation of their complementary capabilities. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to lead high-profile, independent research using these instruments, including research such as high-contrast imaging of exoplanets and circumstellar disks, and to collaborate with Steward Observatory faculty and Department of Astronomy scholars. Independent research is encouraged as time permits. The researcher may apply as a principal investigator for time on Steward facilities and, through a secondary affiliation with the Italian National Astrophysics Institute (INAF), may also apply for LBT time through the Italian time-allocation process. The University of Arizona and Steward Observatory offer a research environment in space science and astrophysics, with interdisciplinary programs across Astronomy, Physics, Optical Sciences, and Planetary Sciences, and access to ground-based radio and optical observational and computational facilities. Start dates range from February 2027 to August 2027. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, and benefits eligible.
