About The Position

The Postdoctoral Research Associate, under general supervision of Dr. Roger Creel, will build open-source Arctic relative sea level (RSL) databases, model spatiotemporal trends in postglacial RSL, and evaluate glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) predictions against empirical data. The selected candidate will utilize the skills and expertise granted to them by their education and experience to complete research projects in their field of expertise.

Requirements

  • PhD in Geology, Earth Science, or similar.
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Geology, Earth Science, or similar.
  • Experience doing Arctic fieldwork to collect relative sea-level data, preferably in Greenland.
  • Experience working for the United States Geological Survey.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to interact professionally with clients and staff.
  • Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs.

  • Ability to facilitate and adapt course and course content.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain open-source relational databases containing Arctic relative sea level (RSL) data.
  • Apply statistical models to fill spatial and temporal data gaps.
  • Interpolate RSL changes across inaccessible regions to characterize spatiotemporal trends since the Last Glacial Maximum (focusing on Greenland and Laurentide Ice Sheets).
  • Calculate misfit values between statistically modeled RSL trends and glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) model predictions to identify refinements for ice history and Earth parameters.
