About The Position

The Research Department invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship focused on the origin of RNA 5' caps. The m7G 5' cap structure of mRNA is one of the defining properties of eukaryotes, yet the evolution of the structure central to protein translation and non-self RNA surveillance has been elusive. This postdoctoral research will be supported by cutting edge research and bioinformatics tools, as well as the expertise of the NEB research community. The successful candidate will enjoy a highly collaborative and intellectually open environment where clear communication of ideas and publication of results are expected.

Requirements

• Recent Ph.D. in biochemistry or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in formulating and testing hypotheses using enzymatic and next-generation sequencing assays (Illumina, ONT).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
• Ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment.
• Record of publishing original scientific research in high-quality journals.
• Strong work ethic, scientific curiosity, creativity, and self-motivation.

Nice To Haves

• Ability to learn and apply cutting-edge bioinformatics tools for the analysis of genomic and metagenomic data.
• Experience in the design and execution of high-throughput experiments.

Responsibilities

• Conduct foundational research to identify RNA 5' caps across diverse biological systems.
• Develop and apply enzyme- and sequencing-based assays.
• Present and publish novel findings in scientific journals and at conferences.
• Support the supervision of graduate and undergraduate interns.
