We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow interested in applying skills in biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, next-generation sequencing and structural biology to the study of phage defense systems. The successful candidate will join the lab of Prof Tim Blower and collaborate with both NEB and external scientists to explore methylation-based defenses such as Bacteriophage Exclusion (BREX). The research will be undertaken in a highly academic environment where training is emphasized, and publication of results is expected.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in biological sciences with relevant experience
  • Demonstrated scientific communication skills
  • Publication of original scientific work in high-quality journals
  • Strong work ethic, emphasizing both efficiency and quality of work
  • Integrity, perseverance, and a collaborative nature

Nice To Haves

  • Track record of successful research in the fields of biochemistry and/or molecular biology
  • Prior experience with protein expression and purification
  • Prior experience with analysis of protein structural models and/or structural biology, while not required, would be useful
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative, setting

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct experiments to develop deeper understanding of phage defense systems
  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners to inform project design and strategy
  • Develop and apply data analysis and visualization strategies
  • Publish results in open-access journals
