About The Position

Public Health Ontario is looking to hire a postdoctoral fellow for bioinformatics and genomic projects Candida genomes. Interested candidates with a doctoral degree in any areas of biology relating to genomics, bioinformatics, and microbiology are encouraged to apply. This position offers an exciting opportunity to gain experience in genomic epidemiology within a public health setting.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in any areas of biology relating to genomics, bioinformatics, and microbiology
  • PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g., biology, microbiology, pathology, public health, computer science, or a related discipline)
  • Experience with python
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with a workflow language (snakemake or nextflow)
  • Experience with unix environment

Responsibilities

  • Analyze sequence data by Public Health Ontario
  • Collaborate closely with a microbiologist (Co-PI) and Scientist (Co-PI) to analyse genomic data from Candida spp.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the research team to share progress and insights, discuss findings, and refine the research objectives and methodologies
  • Organize and maintain a comprehensive sequence database with associated metadata
  • Analyze and synthesize research findings from various sources to identify key trends, data types, emerging technologies, and gaps in the existing literature
  • Meet project deadlines and milestones in a timely manner while maintaining the quality and accuracy of the work
