The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee. The Global Water Security Center (GWSC) at the University of Alabama and the Climate Measurements Center of Excellence (CMEC), physically sited at the University of Vermont, seek a water-focused scientist or engineer for a new Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Water Metrics. Co-located with GWSC, an applied research and operational center commissioned to respond to our nation’s need for water and environmental security insights, and will learn from and build on GWSC’s expertise in interdisciplinary research to operations. This position will join the interdisciplinary CMEC team focused on developing standardized frameworks, methods, and measurements to assess climate change impacts. Selects, implements, and evaluates a wide range of precipitation and surface water metrics. The project will involve both reviewing and writing up potential metrics and working with large datasets to conduct both spatial and temporal analysis of selected metrics. This is a one year position renewable for up to three years. Continuation in this position is contingent upon availability of external funding derived from research programs or specific projects.
