About The Position

A postdoctoral research position is available in the Nanoassembly Lab at the University of Texas at Austin focusing on the physical chemistry and dynamics of polyelectrolyte complex micelles (PCMs) for nucleic acid delivery. The University of Texas at Austin, Cockrell School of Engineering, and Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering are recognized leaders in technology innovation and engineering education. The department is known for its pioneering work in robotics and advanced manufacturing, including the development of selective laser sintering, an early 3D-printing technology. The position is located in Austin, Texas, a city known for its innovative spirit and strong ties to major tech companies.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in materials science, chemical engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, or a related field received within the past 3 years.
  • Demonstrated experience in soft matter characterization and/or physical chemistry of polymers.
  • Ability to work well with cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage and lead collaborative projects and communicate results effectively in writing and presentations.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), quantitative light scattering, fluorescence spectroscopy, nucleic acid chemistry, or polymer synthesis.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are extremely important, along with a demonstrable ability to reach a variety of audiences in academia, industry, and government.

Responsibilities

  • PCM assembly and characterization (in collaboration with partners)
  • Kinetics measurements (fluorescence, SAXS)
  • Data analysis, modeling, and design rule development
  • Mentoring graduate and undergraduate students
  • Scientific communication (writing, presenting, etc.)

Benefits

  • The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
  • This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
