About The Position

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available for a highly motivated and independent candidate to join the laboratory of Dr. Jonathan Ostrem in the Department of Translational Medicine at Genentech. Our laboratory focuses on mechanistic understanding of molecular therapeutics and the development of discovery platforms for novel therapies. This position will focus on defining the effects of small molecule ligands on chromatin remodeling and engagement of chromatin by transcription factors. The postdoctoral fellow will have an opportunity to collaborate across the organization, including drug discovery, research oncology, translational genomics, and computational sciences, and with academic partners.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Biology, Chemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or related field, with a proven track record of research accomplishments.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in high-throughput screening, assay development, recombinant protein expression, molecular biology and biophysical techniques.
  • Ability to formulate scientific questions and hypotheses.
  • Ability to design, perform, interpret, and effectively communicate experiments to test these hypotheses.
  • Must have advanced at least one key research project as evidenced by a first author publication (pre-print and/or accepted for publication).
  • Independent scientist with outstanding communication skills, a strong passion and commitment to scientific discovery in cancer and chemical biology, and who works well with teams.
  • Excited about identifying novel targets and molecular mechanisms for treatment of cancer.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in industry settings as part of cross-functional teams.
  • Prior experience in synthetic chemistry, including library design.
  • Working knowledge of bioinformatics tools is a plus.

  • Employ state-of-the-art technologies to explore chromatin structure and transcription factor engagement in the context of chemical modulators.
  • Collaborate with other researchers across the organization to accelerate research progress and foster interdisciplinary knowledge.
