About The Position

The Nath lab at City of Hope is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position in computational cancer biology. The lab's research focuses on enhancing cancer treatment outcomes through investigating the biological mechanisms underlying tumor progression using single-cell and bulk multiomic techniques, and advancing precision oncology through machine-learning models that integrate multimodal patient data to develop predictive models for drug response and personalize treatment. This role involves close collaboration with experimental scientists, mathematicians, and medical oncologists/surgeons to plan, design, and execute computational analyses. The successful candidate will design, maintain, and optimize computational pipelines and software tools for integrating multi-omics and clinical datasets, and develop/apply AI/ML algorithms to discover prognostic and predictive biomarkers and design treatment-stratification frameworks. The position also requires staying updated on the latest advancements in bioinformatics, genomics, and AI/ML research, presenting findings, and working with the PI on a career development plan.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Strong fundamentals in cancer biology and statistics are essential.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Python/R, with experience in computational analysis of omics datasets.
  • Experience with AI/ML algorithms and prediction model development.

Nice To Haves

  • A degree in computer science is especially valuable due to the software engineering, algorithmic, and AI/ML components central to this role.
  • Familiarity with data structures, algorithms, software engineering best practices, and computational efficiency is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with experimental scientists, mathematicians, and medical oncologists/surgeons to plan, design, and execute computational analyses.
  • Design, maintain, and optimize computational pipelines and software tools for integration of multi‑omics and clinical datasets to uncover mechanisms of tumor evolution and therapeutic resistance.
  • Developing and applying state‑of‑the‑art artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) algorithms to discover robust prognostic and predictive biomarkers, and design clinically actionable treatment‑stratification frameworks.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in bioinformatics, genomics, and AI/ML research, and present findings to internal teams and external collaborators, as well as at conferences.
  • Work with the PI to develop a career development plan and participate in various career‑growth opportunities.
