About The Position

The Department of Biology at Indiana University Bloomington is a large, unified department with strong undergraduate degrees, nationally-ranked graduate programs, and world-class research spanning the breadth of biological questions and experimental systems. The Landeta Lab in the Department of Biology is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to investigate processes in the bacterial cell envelope, with an emphasis on oxidative protein folding. The overarching goal for this position is to make timely progress on NIH and CFF grants, which seek fundamental insights into novel oxidative reactions, exported proteins dependent on disulfide bonds, substrate specificity among thiol-disulfide oxidoreductases, and the discovery of novel inhibitors against oxidative folding. The lab is excited about science and looking for a positive, curious person to join their team.

Requirements

  • PhD in Biology or related field.
  • Experience in microbiology.
  • Experience in oxidative protein folding.
  • Experience with in vitro assays.
  • Experience with proteomics.
  • Experience with E. coli and Mycobacteria.
  • Experience with crystallography.
  • Ability to supervise undergraduate students.
  • Ability to manage general lab operations.
  • Ability to write research reports and manuscripts.
  • Ability to present research findings.
  • Positive and curious attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in vitro assays to determine inhibitor efficacy against redox membrane proteins.
  • Perform cysteine enrichment of DsbA substrates in E. coli and Mycobacteria using proteomics.
  • Determine differences between DsbA proteins of two model organisms, E. coli and M. smegmatis.
  • Establish termini restraining for inhibitor-protein crystallography in collaboration with Prof. Weikai Li.
  • Supervise undergraduate students.
  • Manage general lab operations.
  • Write up research for annual reports or manuscripts.
  • Present findings at lab meetings, microphiles, retreats, and conferences.
