About The Position

The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Dr. Eugene Serebryany in the department of Physiology & Biophysics and the Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University, by carrying out a thorough and thoughtful experimental program focused on structural investigation, physiological consequences, and pharmacological targeting of disordered and flexible proteins.

Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Biochemistry or closely related field degree in hand by the start of the appointment.
  • Strong background in protein or peptide biochemistry/chemical biology/biotechnology.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • A strong record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience working with intrinsically disordered proteins and their supramolecular assemblies.
  • Experience and training in high-throughput biochemistry or biotechnology.
  • Experimental skills in protein mass spectrometry, structural biology, or pharmacology.
  • Experience at the interface of protein biophysics and physiology or microbiology.
  • Big-data analysis and data stewardship skills.

Responsibilities

  • Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments in the field of protein or peptide biochemistry/chemical biology/biotechnology.
  • Design, implement, and optimize research methodologies with the guidance of the PI and collaborators. Always adhere to a high standard of research integrity and professional ethics. Mentor and train more junior researchers and trainees.
  • Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data. Maintain careful records of data, protocols, and procedures via electronic lab notebook (ELN) software
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.
