Postbaccalaureate Appointee - Magnetohydrodynamics

Argonne National LaboratoryLemont, IL

About The Position

The Computational Science (CPS) division focuses on solving the most challenging scientific problems through advanced modeling and simulation on the most capable computers. The division aims to build lab-wide cross-cutting simulation application capabilities integrating with mathematics, computer science, domain science, and advanced computing architectures and facilities. The CPS division is seeking a Postbaccalaureate Appointee to join their team. This person will work to add magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) to the Hardware/Hybrid Accelerated Cosmology Code (HACC) framework. The research will include how an MHD capability is implemented in the context of the Conservative Reproducing Kernel Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (CRKSPH) method used in HACC. This effort will also include modeling of the effect of cosmic rays as a baryonic feedback mechanism and optimization of the distributed FFT used in HACC.

Requirements

  • Completed Bachelor's degree in computer science, physics, or equivalent
  • Comprehensive skills in programming languages such as C++, CUDA, and Python
  • Experience in developing HPC codes
  • Experience with the HACC code
  • Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multiple computing platforms
  • Experience with AI techniques
