About The Position

To assist licensed personnel in the delivery of quality patient care within the Post-Surgical Unit. This role involves providing a positive and professional representation of the organization, promoting a culture of safety, and maintaining hospital standards for a clean and quiet patient environment. The CNA will maintain competency in current standards of practice, adhere to infection-control policies, and participate in quality improvement activities. Compliance with policies for handling confidential patient information and demonstrating excellent customer service are essential. The position requires adherence to professional standards, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Ability to walk/stand for long periods of time.
  • Use correct body mechanism to position patients.
  • Assist patient’s movement to BSC, chair, and ambulating.
  • Ability to perform complete and accurate vital signs.
  • Consistently rounds on patients to anticipate needs.
  • Passes meal trays in a timely manner, providing wet cloth for patients use. Ensures that all patients who are able, are sitting up and are comfortable for the meal. Picks up meal trays in a timely manner.
  • Feeds patients who are unable to feed themselves.
  • Provides ice water at least once every shift to bedside for patients who are able to have ice water. Removes additional fluids from patients on fluid restrictions.
  • Offers/Provides bath, linen change to patients who require assistance or complete care, and documents on activity record. Notifies licensed personnel if patient refuses bath and/or linen change, and documents on activity record.
  • Obtain intake and output as directed by physician or plan of care.
  • Update patient board in room daily.
  • Assists in admission process by obtaining vital signs, providing personal care items and room orientation.
  • Utilization of critical thinking skills in prioritization of care.
  • Ability to identify changes in patient condition and notifies licensed personnel of any change in patient condition.
  • Provide safe environment.
  • Documents all patient and family teaching as requested/necessary.
  • Demonstrates correct use and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Participates in the development, prioritization, and evaluation of individualized plan of care.
  • Assist in modification of plan based on patient's response. Provides information directly to the physician and documents appropriately.
  • Ability to take directions from licensed and administrative professionals. Attempts to resolve conflict independently, if unable, seeks the assistance of department leader.
  • Provides health care at the best value without compromising patient care. Utilizes the Pyxis appropriately, obtains items under specific patient's name and returns unused items.
  • Responsible and accountable for all actions.
  • Assist with chart completion and copying of all paperwork.
  • Coordinates with nursing supervisor and/or materials management for supply items that cannot be obtained from the Pyxis. Ensures chart is documented and changes are added to the patient charge sheet.
  • Provides assistance to the physician during examination of patient.
  • Transports patient to procedures as needed.
  • Regularly attends monthly staff meetings.
