About The Position

The Post Secondary Coordinator will work closely with the Associate Director of Post Secondary Success to expand capacity within the department. The Post Secondary Coordinator will support YouthBuild students and alumni by providing individualised and culturally responsive college, career and vocational counseling that meets the diverse needs and unique pathways of YouthBuild students. The coordinator will build strong relationships with students, families and community partners to connect students with post-secondary opportunities. The ideal candidate is compassionate, equity driven, and skilled in working with youth who may face systemic barriers or a nontraditional educational journey.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred but not required.
  • 2-3 years of previous student support experience or relevant professional experience, preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as alumni mentor to ~80% of the graduating class, executing on standard operating procedures for year 2 alumni support to ensure that all alumni transition into quality employment or postsecondary training within 1 year of graduating
  • Support alumni in finding, applying for, and successfully continuing in employment/postsecondary training placements
  • Support alumni in navigating personal barriers and challenges (transportation, childcare, housing, employment, training etc.)
  • Create and share resources for alumni
  • Maintain strong relationships with community partners, employers, and post-secondary institutions to expand opportunities and resources for students.
  • Plan and lead alumni communication and engagement including newsletters, alumni events, and other innovative strategies to engage and support alumni
  • Manage monthly alumni incentive distribution
  • Execute on standard operating procedures for Year 1 exposure experiences, including planning and leading a calendar of exposure experiences (College/training program tours, panels/presentations at YB, College & Career Day, worksite visits, informational interviews etc.) in collaboration with the Director of Postsecondary Success
  • Collaborate with Student Advisors and the Director of Postsec to support with year 1 postsecondary programming as needed (aligning supports, supporting with workshops, mock interviews, internships etc.)
  • Support with a smooth transition from year 1 to year 2 supports to prevent drop off in communication after graduation
  • Serve as year 1 mentor to a cohort of 4-5 students, offering consistent academic, personal, and postsecondary support to ensure they successfully graduate and transition into quality postsecondary placements
  • Provide backup coverage and additional support for all responsibilities of other Postsecondary Coordinator as needed based on seasonal workload rhythms as assigned by Director of Postsecondary Success
  • Participate in team meetings and school-wide initiatives to align post-secondary planning with overall student success strategies.
  • Participate in a highly collaborative, fluid school culture that requires strong interpersonal skills and flexibility.
  • Stay connected and keep current with local and national trends around career development, postsecondary education, and employment
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Director of Post Secondary Success.
